A Little Bit About Native American Indians

Native American Indians are the indigenous people who inhabited North America, and still do today!  In the last census of 2000, there were over three-million native Indians living in the United States and Canada.  Of those 3 million, about one million were Native American Indian children!

Because of their freedom and sovereign rule, Indians may enjoy their traditions, culture and other commercial endeavors without the interference of the U.S. Government.  That is probably the primary reason for the flourishing amount of Indian gaming casinos on Indian reservation lands.  Such establishments have been a large windfall for the Indian nations, allowing them to prosper and provide for their communities and the communities surrounding their lands.

There are over 55 recognized Native Indian tribes in North America; however, there are hundreds of smaller tribes and sub-tribes.

The Native American Indians of today have a very special relationship with the U.S. Government because they are a “nation within a nation“.  That is, the Native Indians can live in tribes and enjoy a sovereign Indian nation that is independent from the Government of the United States.
